The whole vehicle in one visit. Exterior washed, decontaminated and protected. Interior vacuumed to the seat rails, plastics cleaned and dressed, glass done last so nothing streaks back onto it. This is what most people mean when they say the car needs detailing.

An engine bay that has been degreased and dressed tells a buyer the car was maintained. Hazed headlight lenses get wet sanded and resealed, which is worth doing for night visibility long before it is worth doing for looks.

Detailing works the clear coat and the surfaces. A dent stays a dent, a scratch you can catch a fingernail in has gone through the clear and needs paint, not polish. What detailing fixes is everything sitting on top of and inside that clear coat.
Ceramic makes the surface easier to clean and helps it shed water and road film. It does not make paint scratch proof, and any product sold on that promise is being oversold. It buys you easier maintenance and a longer gloss, not immunity.
A well kept sedan can be quicker than a compact that has carried two dogs and a jobsite for four years. Anyone quoting a duration before seeing the car is quoting an average, and averages are how jobs run late.
